8th Annual Chili Cook-Off
Another Successful Year
 
HOUSTON, TX February 20, 2018 – The Young Professionals of Casa de Esperanza de los Niños hosted its Eighth Annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, February 25th at Kirby Ice House, raising an incredible 50,000 to support children in crisis. This year’s event was chaired by Elizabeth and Josh Blount, Mary Ann Cuellar and Richard Mason, and Annie Daugherty and Albert Spiers.
Over 400 guests joined in for a great afternoon to help raise awareness for the organization and 30 teams competed for the coveted title of Best Chili. Six judges: Eric Sandler, Food Editor for CultureMap, Cathy Hernandez, KPRC Channel 2 Reporter, Craig Lindstrom, CFO of GR8 Plate Hospitality, Grant Pinkerton, of Pinkerton BBQ, Kendra Lynch, Houston Food Blogger, and Kevin Strickland, Former Owner of Gratifi Kitchen + Bar judged the recipes for taste and presentation. And, the winner of Best Chili was awarded to “It’s Always Yummy in Chili-Delphia”. Winning team members were Eric Ivers, Patrick Broussard, Jacob Melancon, and Stephen Newton. Cheering on the event were Casa de Esperanza supporters – Janie and Todd Mason, Claire and Greg Bassett, Frank Rynd and Host Committee Members including Ally Hatz, Brian Gendron, Russ Morgan, Sara Brown, Jose Linardi, Laura Broussard, Elizabeth Adkins, Scott Cummings, John Adkins, Ashley Brown and Caroline Dawson.

The crowd enjoyed Tin Roof Brewery beer and an out-of-this-world raffle which included 2 Roundtrip Domestic Airline Tickets, a weekend in New Orleans, courtside Rockets tickets and much more! Casa de Esperanza’s Young Professionals was founded in 2005 with the goal of giving young adults in the Houston area an opportunity to come together and give back to the community. They also host quarterly events for the children, such as holiday decorating and parties.
