Community Foster Homes
Casa de Esperanza's Community Foster Homes provide children in placement the opportunity to experience life within a stable family setting. In this setting, children begin to feel that they belong somewhere and can be spared some of the anxiety about who will care for them—an overwhelming concern voiced by many of the children in placement. In the stable, predictable environment of a Community Foster Home, children can begin to deal with feelings of anxiety in a safe, nurturing environment. T hey can also build socialization and developmental skills with the help of caregivers who are consistent and realistic in their expectations.
Children in Community Foster Homes stand a greater chance of being able to make the transition back to their birth parents with fewer problems. In cases where it is impossible or inappropriate for children to return to their birth families, Casa de Esperanza works to prepare the child and a prospective adoptive family for a successful adoption.
Community foster families agree to provide for the children's needs without remuneration. In all areas of licensing and maintaining foster homes, Casa de Esperanza adheres strictly to the state licensing standards for child placement facilities.
Foster families receive training from Casa de Esperanza in child development, and particularly, in the emotional, psychological, and developmental needs of abused, neglected, and HIV positive children. Foster parent training programs are intended to equip these families with the skills to cope with the special needs of the children over a long period of time. Due to the complex and intense needs of the children Casa serves, foster families also receive professional and emotional support from Casa de Esperanza's staff, who are available for consultation and family therapy.
