The New Casa de Esperanza Neighborhood
A future full of hope for thousands of children.
A dream come true for thousands who love them.
In April 2008, in a neighborhood near the Texas Medical Center, the doors of ten new homes opened, and the children of Casa de Esperanza began moving in. It was the culmination of four years of sustained effort by the Casa de Esperanza staff and the Houston community--a wonderful successful fundraising campaign supported by substantial donations of time, money and services by thousands of friends and volunteers.
The new homes and the whole planned community were designed specifically to meet the needs of Casa de Esperanza's children. Residential care on the 4 acre, master-planned neighborhood will be substantially more efficient. The neighborhood also includes a new Program Center.
No one could have dreamed of a place like this 28 years ago when Casa de Esperanza opened its first small house. Casa de Esperanza's extended "family" of volunteers and donors continued to grow and respond generously to the needs of the children we serve. Years of dedication on Casa de Esperanza's behalf led to this moment - a homecoming where some of the neediest children in Houston live in sparkling new homes, outfitted to meet their every last need.
The generosity of Casa de Esperanza's "family" cannot be overstated:
The entire neighborhood sits on land donated by the late Mrs. Mary Nichols.
David Weekley Homes built the new homes at cost. The Morgan Group built the neighborhood's infrastructure (streets, sidewalks, water and sewer systems) also at cost and Kathy Andrews Interiors provided pro bono design services for the homes.
The capital campaign called "A Time to Build Hope, Home and Happiness," chaired by Sally and Forest Hoglund raised the necessary construction funds.
In-kind donations supplemented the Capital Campaign, adding more than two-and-a-half million dollars of donated goods and services.
