Long-Term Staff

Experienced volunteers or paid staff members work in Agency Foster Homes on a long term basis.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Good general health, with a high energy level, and able to lift 35-40 pounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others
  • Willingness to make a minimum of two-year commitment
  • A minimum of one year experience working with abused and neglected children, preferably at Casa or related work experience
  • Flexibility
  • Patience

A criminal history and background check of each potential staff member or volunteer will be completed prior to employment or volunteer placement. No person with a criminal record will be employed or allowed to work with the children.

  • To provide 24 hour care for the children placed in your home
  • To promote skills to develop healthy attachments
  • To participate as a team member in developing and implementing the children's Plan of Service and therapeutic regime
  • To provide community and recreational activities that are age-appropriate for foster children
  • To provide an educational setting that meets the individual needs of the foster child
  • To communicate regularly with the children's caseworker regarding their welfare
  • To support the children's primary attachment to biological parents
  • To complete household duties including, but not limited to: cooking, cleaning, laundry and maintaining the house, lawn and vehicles
  • To complete all necessary paperwork on a timely basis
  • To complete 20 hours of ongoing training annually
  • To operate the home within the prescribed budget
  • To follow the DISCIPLINE POLICY of Casa de Esperanza at all times
  • Corporal punishment is never allowed at Casa de Esperanza.

    Living Arrangements/Family life

    Two Foster Parents live in a home provided by Casa de Esperanza with their foster children. Community volunteers assist foster parents with care of the children and general household duties. One "weekend" (any 48-hour period during a 7-day period) of respite care is provided every six weeks. Two evenings a month, a Parents' Night Out will be provided.

    Foster parents make decisions regarding non-emergency medical care, enrollment in appropriate educational programs, and participation in church and community activities.
