The Internship Program
Throughout the year, Casa de Esperanza offers a wide range of internships to provide an opportunity for college students and recent graduates to receive valuable work experience in the non-profit field. Our internship program aims to recruit and to cultivate students from many fields and disciplines. These may include social work, education, non-profit management, psychology and pre-med to name a few. We offer interns a substantive learning experience that allows them the opportunity to contribute to our work, while at the same time, gaining the knowledge, skills and tools they will need to continue in non-profit administration and programs. Interns are selected by the Executive Director and staff to provide administrative and program support to our professional staff, program managers, and administrative team.
As a complement to their individual departmental placement, interns will be collectively engaged in a comprehensive program that explores Casa de Esperanza’s mission and structure as a whole and its role in the children’s lives.
The internship positions include the following:
Full-time Residential Program Intern
Casa de Esperanza staff members provide graduating levels of care from temporary emergency placements to long term foster care, depending on the needs of children in placement at any given time. The backbone of Casa de Esperanza, the Residential Program Interns commit approximately one year of their lives to work with the children in the houses. Responsibilities include assisting with house management, coordination of medical appointments, therapy sessions and day to day care of the children. The interns will also work in association with case workers, psychological staff and community volunteers on a routine basis.
Case Work Intern
This internship position is designed to provide case work support to the organization. The intern will learn the various duties involved in case management and required documentation. They will also develop skills to work with clients, foster parents and the Department of Family and Protective Services. The intern will assist case workers both in the office and on off-site family visits.
Education Intern
Casa de Esperanza established Casa Academy to meet the needs of some of the school-age children in placement at Casa or in the post-adoptive support program. These children are in need of a small, structured environment with integrated school and after-school care to ensure consistency of care and relationships. Casa Academy provides a positive learning environment that is less stressful, more flexible and sensitive to the medical, emotional and developmental needs of these children. Casa Academy is a reflection of Casa de Esperanza’s desire to meet the developmental and educational needs of the children we serve.
The Education Intern works at Casa Academy. The intern position will report to the Casa Academy Program Director and will involve day to day classroom duties. This internship is best suited for someone interested in education or special education as a career.
