Casa Teen Board Takes Charge of Casa’s
22nd Birthday Party
Casa only celebrates its fall birthday every few years because it is such a
huge undertaking. The newly formed Teen Board put on a birthday party this
past November and it was a great success. Teen Board members planned, raised
funds and executed the event, bringing in many more of their friends to help
with all the games and activities for the children. The teen hosts set a
fresh, upbeat mood.
The afternoon of Sunday, November 7, had to be one of Houston’s most
spectacular—sunny and just-right warm. Casa children, staff and former
staff, foster families, adoptive families and many of Casa’s friends and
supporters gathered at the Almeda Property. There were pony and camel rides,
a petting zoo, sophisticated basketball toss games and everything in between
to please the kids.
Spindletop Charities, a philanthropic group from the oil and gas industry,
played their traditional role. The Spindletop team arrived in their gleaming
18-wheeler, setting up in the early hours, cooking barbeque, preparing all
the favorite accompaniments and serving the entire group. Like all the best
volunteers, they looked like they were enjoying cooking and serving the meal
as much as all the kids and grownups enjoyed eating it.
