A Casa Teen Looks Back
Lauren Gibbs spoke to a group assembled by Spindletop
Charities, a long time supporter of Casa. Following are excerpts.

“It is sad to say that some children do not have a place to call home. I did not for a while until Casa de Esperanza took me and my siblings into their care. I admit I was scared and frightened. But who wouldn’t be? I was in a new place living with complete strangers. But these strangers welcomed us with open arms, love, support and a shoulder to cry on. They made sure we were safe, well-groomed, and educated.

“During my stay at Casa, I saw more and more children come in who were as scared and frightened as I was. Children came in like wounded animals that needed to be cared for and tended to so that they would heal. It was hard for them to trust anyone. But Casa welcomed them all....They opened their arms and hearts with love, kindness, patience...

“Two years later, Casa found my sisters and I a home with Willie and Tena Gibbs where they already had adopted three girls, two...from Casa.

“...Seven years later as I reflect back on my years at Casa, I realize that they did so much for not only me but for other children also... Till this day Casa still makes sure we are safe, loved, and happy. They do their best to help all the children that came through Casa to get a home with a loving family....

“I thank Kathy Foster and Bill Jones for taking me and those other children in, in need of love and care. I thank the foster parents for taking care of us at Casa. I thank my mom and dad for adopting, loving, and supporting me in all that I do.”
